Why Home Care Is So Important for Veterans in Need

Veterans Home Care St. Louis

Veterans Home Care St. LouisHome care may be instrumental at helping to provide safety, comfort, and a higher quality of life for people of all ages, including veterans. When a veteran is having difficulty maintaining his or her balance or to perform other tasks, a home care aide would be a great asset.

Some veterans may not think they can afford it.

Some veterans never look into home care support services because they simply don’t believe they can afford that type of care. In truth, though, if they qualify for the Aid and Attendance Benefit, made available through the VA, it could help them pay for the home care support they need.

Why consider home care in the first place?

Some veterans who may be fiercely independent might see relying on a home care aide as a sign of a loss of independence or having something to do with their capabilities in life. Depending on the situation, whether it’s due to age, injuries sustained in an accident, physical disabilities, or anything else, an aide can be instrumental at not only keeping them safe, but helping them maintain a high quality of life.

As it is for just about any other individual who may require home care support services, for veterans, it’s about safety and maintaining a high quality of life. An experienced home care aide may offer companionship, physical support, encouragement, and so much more.

It’s easy to overlook the value a home care aide can offer, but when you begin assessing a particular situation, noticing the various safety issues and limitations a person is dealing with, and then seeing what’s possible with a little physical support, emotional encouragement, and companionship and stimulation, it becomes easier to see all of the value that home care support services can offer.

What veterans are eligible for this level of support?

Because the Aid and Attendance Benefit is not available to all veterans, it’s important to understand the requirements. It’s necessary the veteran can prove that home care support is absolutely necessary at this point in his or her life. Also, the veteran needs to have served a minimum of 90 days’ active duty service, with at least one day falling during a time of active combat, as defined by Congress.

If the veteran served during the Gulf War, even if for just one day, they need to have served at least two years active duty.

Any veteran who needs home care support and can’t afford it should look into the Aid and Attendance Benefit. That’s because it can mean the difference between a higher quality of life and struggling daily.
