Quality of life matters. Whether you’re in your teens or well into your 80s, you deserve to have a high quality of life. When it comes to the veterans who served this country, they deserve to have the respect and gratitude of a nation, and that means when they need some extra care during their later years, they should be able to rely on veterans home care.
What is veterans home care? This doesn’t refer to a special retirement home or nursing home that is reserved for only veterans, though that may be what it sounds like. The term veterans home care refers to the same type of home care that other people received. This could be a home care aide, home health care worker, or any other professional that comes to the home of the elderly patient and provides some level of support. For many veterans, though, the cost of this type of home care can be prohibitive, leaving them unable to hire the ideal care provider for their needs.
If you have an elderly loved one who served in the United States military, then he or she may be eligible to get financial assistance through the VA (Veterans Administration) to help pay for home care. This benefit is known as the Aid and Attendance pension and it can also apply to spouses and widows of military veterans who either did, or would have, been granted the pension. It can be used to help pay for home care, depending on the requirements of the individual.
When a military veteran is able to receive the right level of care at home, then he can continue to remain where he is and have the dignity that he deserves, thanks to his service.
The Aid and Attendance pension is not available to all military veterans though. There are certain criteria that must be met. The first is that there has to be a definite need for this level of care. Second, the veteran must have served in the military for at least 90 days of active duty and one of those days of service would need to have been during a time of conflict. World War I, World War II, the Korean conflict, the Vietnam era, and the Gulf War are the eligible wartime periods.
