The New Year is going to be great for you and your family. You are going to do things better than ever. Your resolutions are going to stick this year, right? Of course they are. Well, while your vow to stop eating donuts and to limit yourself to five cups of coffee per day might fall by the wayside, you should certainly take charge when it comes to veteran’s home care.
If your father has been struggling at times to manage his own care in the comfort of his home, you might have thought that it could be time for him to consider moving into an assisted living facility, or even in with you. But you don’t really want that just yet. After all, you still enjoy being married to your wife and you know that if you invited your father to come live with you that would spell trouble.
But you heard someone mention the idea of veteran’s home care when you were in a store, waiting on another long line even though there were twenty aisles and only two cashiers, and one of the men talking mentioned something about the Aid and Attendance benefit. You interrupted to ask them what they were referring to and you found out that for men (and women) who served in the United States military during a time of conflict or combat, then they might be able to qualify for some financial help that could pay for home care at home.
You mentioned the idea of assisted living for veterans once and you were nearly thrown out of the house (you forgot just how strong your father was, even at his age), but you are thinking that this year, with the idea of the VA Aid and Attendance Benefit on hand, this could be a good, solid idea for you.
You’re going to research it and find out that veterans who served for at least 90 days active duty in one of the four major military branches would qualify. You’ll also learn that at least one of those days of service would have to be during a time of combat, though they don’t need to have been anywhere near the fighting. You’ll also learn that they would have to be honorably discharged from service to quality.
That’s why you’re going to take charge in the New Year when it comes to veteran’s home care, because you know something new now that you didn’t know last year. Knowledge, as they say, is power.
