November 11th is Veteran’s Day and when it comes to home care, these men and women deserve all of the respect and the best care that they can get. While we take the time this year to honor those who have served in the military through the years, it’s important to realize that some of them do need our support when they get older.
Due to several wars and conflicts throughout the many years, there are many men and women who are returning from battle with emotional as well as physical injuries and scars. These scars can endure for the rest of their life and there is certainly plenty of support through the VA to provide the level of care that they need.
But what happens when one of these honorable men who served during a time of war require some level of assistance within their own home? Veteran’s home care is required by many former military veterans after they reach retirement age. Men who served during the Korean War or even Vietnam are within that age range now and they might need some extra help while remaining at home. There is a program that has been developed that can provide some level of assistance for them in the comfort of their own home. This program is also available to spouses or widows or former military veterans.
It’s called the Aid and Attendance benefit and it is available to certain military veterans. It’s not available to all veterans, however, so it’s important that you know what the basic requirements are and also to be sure that the veteran fills out all of the required information before submitting the application; it will only be reviewed once, so if you think that a family member who was former military is eligible and has a need for the VA Aid and Attendance Benefit, then be sure to fill out everything properly.
In order to qualify for veteran care from this program, the individual will need to have served in active duty in one of the major military branches for at least 90 days, with one of them being during a time of war. They don’t have to have served in a combat situation, though. They would also need to have been honorably discharged from their service.
This year, when Veterans Day is upon us, take a moment to honor those who served and think about those who may now require our help, in the form of veteran’s home care.
