Ten years after Bonnie Laiderman opened the doors of Veterans Home Care, the company is celebrating a decade of service to veteran families with an open house at their headquarters on March 7, from 3-6 pm.

Bonnie started the company to honor the memory of her mother, Eadie Sperling. Eadie lost her life to cancer and spent her last days attempting to navigate the application process so she could receive the VA’s Aid & Attendance pension to pay for the care she needed. This futile struggle was the reason Bonnie founded Veterans Home Care, just weeks after Eadie’s passing. Bonnie promised her mother that she would do everything in her power to help other deserving, needy veterans and surviving spouses apply for and get the pension to pay for their care.

Ten years later, the company has offices in eight states in addition to its Missouri headquarters, and has helped more than 6,000 veterans or their widows to access VA benefits for the care they need.

When I began this venture 10 years ago, I never dreamed it would be the company it is today,” said Laiderman, Veterans Home Care president. “It is the most rewarding work I’ve ever done, and also the most challenging. When I’m able to look a frail veteran or widow in the eye and tell them I can help them get care and continue living at home, I’m filled with pride for the work my company does.”

Veterans Home Care, a woman-owned business headquartered in St. Louis, was founded in 2003 to help veterans and their surviving spouses who qualify, apply for a non-service related disability pension from the Department of Veterans Affairs, which pays for assistance with activities of daily living in their homes. VHC provides home care, assigns attendant care workers and follows up to assure that the veteran remains in compliance with VA guidelines to continue receiving the pension.

There are no out-of-pocket costs to the client; VHC furnishes an interest-free loan for the cost of home care until the application is approved and VA reimbursements begin. Veterans Home Care is not a government agency and is not affiliated with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
