It’s just about that time of year again: Thanksgiving. Many people get together with family members for Thanksgiving. They sit around a table with an incredible feast, begin talking about things they did throughout the year, express their gratitude for all of the blessings they have, and enjoy each other’s company. For those families who have at least one aging veteran, whether or not they rely on home care at the moment, there are plenty of reasons to be thankful for them.
For veterans who are currently relying on home care aides, here are five reasons why it’s a good idea to be thankful for the services that those caregivers provide.
Reason #1: It helps to keep the veteran safe.
For aging veterans, staying safe may have never been something that crossed their mind all that often. Yet, as they’ve gotten older their physical capabilities have diminished. It becomes more difficult to climb stairs, get things down from the closet or high up in a cabinet, and more.

Reason #2: It can motivate the aging veteran.
When there’s somebody coming to the house on a regular basis, the elderly veteran may be more inspired to want to do more, be more active, and pursue certain interests, especially when they realize there’s somebody there to support them in those endeavors.

When a family can’t be close enough to their elderly loved one to support them physically, it’s nice to know there is a professional and experienced caregiver coming to the house every day to provide that level of assistance.

When an elderly veteran suffers a medical emergency, whether it’s health related, due to surgery, the result of an accidental slip and fall, or anything else, when they are discharged and sent home they will need to continue with the recovery process. When aging veterans live alone, there’s an increased risk of them dealing with loneliness, feelings of isolation, and depression. They may be able to drive them to the store, to doctors’ appointments, and to run other errands, and they’ll be able to sit down and have conversations with them, eat meals with them, and more.
